Configuration Files of ESXi

The job of the virtual machine manager or in other words the hypervisor is to create a virtual network and manage the entire network and the connected client's or guest's operating system in a virtual manner. The client is given an impression as if the client is working on a real machine however with the help of virtualization the client is actually working on a virtual or a logical machine. It is very difficult to differentiate, for a client or the guest, to spot out the two machines apart. The virtual machine manager like ESXi need not be installed on the operating system rather could be installed on the hardware directly. This enables a fast and a quick installation of the hypervisor. There are certain easy steps and methods that need to be followed in order to install, configure and deploy the ESXi or other kinds of hypervisor. The virtual machine manager like the ESXi does the job of hardware virtualization allowing different operating systems to work in a single environment and that too concurrently on a host computer. The host or the server is the place where the virtual machine manager or the ESXi server is placed to manage the entire virtual networks. ESXi boasts of high manageability and improved security and reliability.

There are only a handful of files of configuration that describe the state of an ESXi system. These files are really important for the concurrency of the operating systems or the guests in the network. The configuration files in the ESXi basically controls function of virtual networking and storage, server network settings, keys required in SSL and the local user information. They are generally found in the memory system location as such however as these files are important they are also being backed up by the backup ESXi. The backup of these files are done in a consistent manner by the backup ESXi. The configuration files are periodically copied in a persistent manner in a separate storage device by the backup ESXi. The backup ESXi does the job of the storage of the configuration files which is then recovered in the event of power failure or other such unprecedented problems. The data protection is also taken care of by the backup ESXi whose responsibility is to take the data on the data storage devices like tape drives which is generally preferred and also the compact storage devices.
